Preparing for a Hot Yoga Workout
What to Wear
During a hot yoga workout, you should wear lightweight clothing that is also form fitting. Avoid baggy clothing as it will get soaked and weigh you down. this can become very frustrating during the workout. Men are fortunate in that they can practice without a shirt on while women can choose to wear a sports bra and any type of bottom.
There are other accessories that are necessary during a yoga workout and some that are just recommended in order to make your practice easier and more effective. A durable mat that is also very “grippy” is essential. This will help prevent slipping and sliding on your mat, which can be a source of frustration and make it more difficult to get into and hold certain poses. A hot yoga workout towel that can be placed over your mat is also very helpful in keeping things dry so you don’t slide on your mat. Other accessories that can also be beneficial during your workout are yoga gloves and yoga socks. These are especially helpful if you tend to have hands and/or feet that get very sweaty during exertion. Another thing to consider is tying your hair back, especially with longer hair which can get very sweaty in a hot room. Lastly, a thick, absorbent headband will also help keep you dry and keep the sweat out of your eyes. All these accessories can definitely enhance your yoga practice and allow you to achieve a more efficient workout.
Two other necessities for a superior hot yoga workout are a bottle of water and a hand towel. It’s helpful to use a bottle which also keeps your water cold, as it is so very hot in the room. Drink periodically during the class as you feel necessary and use the hand towel to wipe excess sweat from your hands, face and other parts of your body.
