The Corpse Pose is one of the easiest yoga poses to do, but it is also one of the most important to a yoga sequence. Also known as śavāsana, this is a restorative pose that helps us return to center and feel what our bodies really need from us.
Doing the corpse pose is quite simple. You just need to lie face up with your legs kept at a comfortable distance and your arms at your side, heart extended upward. That’s it!
Variation of Corpse Pose
You can do a variation of the corpse pose where you keep the knees bent and the bottom of your feet touch the ground. This can be helpful for those with lower back pain.
Benefits of Corpse Pose
- Calms the mind and the body
- Reduces Stress
- Lowers Blood pressure
Every yoga session will end with this restorative pose, whether it’s a hot yoga workout or any of the many other styles (link to page 5). From here, you can allow yourself to go into a meditative state to prepare you for the day.
